Abstract:Nowadays, Chinese and western cultures are under the trend of co-existence and integration. Catering cultures are also influenced by this phenomenon. However, there are still a great many differences between Chinese and western catering culture. It will be so helpful if we figure out where those differences lie.   

　　　This paper tries to analyze differences in order to make a clear comparison in detail. It develops with representations, reasons and suggestion of catering cultures. With the help of history origins, religious and social causes, differences between Chinese and western catering cultures can be more explained on a philosophical level.

After the thoroughly analysis of the weakness of each catering culture, a few suggestions are given in order to better the communication of catering culture. This paper ends with a brief but general conclusion that it is essential to make a thorough analysis on this problem and find solution to harmonize the communication between various countries and make Chinese catering culture more prosperous in the meanwhile.

　　　We have already known what the representations of Chinese catering culture and western catering culture separately. Both of them show their differences in the material, manner and emphasis on food. Those differences seem to be a clear-cut that distinguish one catering culture from another. Later, why both catering cultures become what they are now is carefully explained through historical, religious, philosophical and social reasons. The process of formation is not mere an accident, but a complex reaction and combination. At last, modifications should be done so as to tackle the weakness of each catering culture. In this way, Chinese and western catering culture will gain much more popularity. 

　　　Nowadays, restaurants serving western food blossom in China and as well Chinese restaurants are popular with foreigners. Catering culture is regarded as a bridge for accelerating the harmonious communication between China and western countries. Different cultures demand for different aspects of appreciation. Understandings towards various cultures will deepen with more exchange of thoughts. After knowing the splendid catering history of China and western countries, Chinese and western catering cultures will be accepted and appreciated by more people. A fascinating and splendid future for both catering cultures can be anticipated.
