Abstract: This paper aims at exploring occupational euphemism, a very important branch of English euphemism from a multitude of perspectives. Generalizing from the characteristics and objectives of occupational euphemism, through discussion and analysis of its structure forms, use of particular words and purpose of evasion, politeness and respect, this study concludes that occupational euphemism has three functions including compliment function, reflecting equality and striving for cooperation. By detailed and comprehensive analysis and summary, this thesis shows that the study of occupational euphemism which is a very important branch of English euphemism will better promote understanding of western culture and cross-cultural communication, which will be beneficial to English learning, social life and outside communication.

摘要：本文通过归纳和演绎的方法对英语职业委婉语这一委婉语的重要分支进行探讨，从英语职业委婉语的特点和目的进行概括总结，从职业委婉语的构成方式、特定词的使用以及职业委婉语的避讳、礼貌和尊重的目的等多角度进行讨论分析，发现职业委婉语在使用中具有三大功能：褒扬功能、体现平等和争取合作。对职业委婉语的研究有助于更好地促进我们对于西方文化的理解和跨文化的交际。
