Abstract: The translation of English movie titles is quite a challenging job, owning to the cultural differences between China and western countries. However, until now no one has put forward a complete and feasible principle to guide film title translation. This paper analyzes the basic functions of English film title, that is, the informative, aesthetic and commercial functions. Then it analyzes and summarizes the methods of English film titles, such as transliteration, liberal translation and adaptation and so on. All the translation methods are indispensable and supplementary to each other and the translators can adopt different methods in order to achieve the goal of a qualified translation.

摘要：由于中外文化间的差异,英语电影片名的翻译是一个相当具有挑战性的工作。目前似乎还没有人提出一套比较完整可行的原则来指导电影片名翻译。当前英语电影片名翻译的问题主要表现在译名不统一。本文具体地提出了电影片名所具有的基本功能，即信息功能、审美功能和商业功能。分析总结了英语电影片名翻译的方法：音译法、直译法、意译法等，这些方法密不可分，优势互补，为了实现一个合格的翻译目标，译者可以灵活采用多种翻译方法。
