Abstract:There are three steps in the process of translating English metaphors into Chinese: understanding, expression and checking. The most critical aspect of translation is choosing the right method to use: literal translation, free translation and the combination of the two. These three methods can also be used in translating English metaphors, where either the original comparison is used, or a new comparison is created, or the comparison is completely left out but the meaning is kept.

中文摘要:本论文陈述了英语隐喻汉译的过程，标准，以及方法和技巧。其过程分三个步骤：理解，表达和校对。翻译的两个主要标准是信和达。翻译的3种方法，直译，意译和两者的结合可以运用于隐喻的汉译。根据情况，或者保留原文的比喻，或者另用一个比喻，或者完全不用比喻，以达意生动为准。
