Abstract:A Dream of Red Mansions is a great composition of highly ideological and artistic and Cao Xueqin had the preliminary democracy thought. He criticized hard on the darkness of the realistic society, the court and the officialdom, the decadent of the feudal aristocracy and their family, the hierarchy of imperial examinations, marriage, slaves and social rules. He especially portrays a series of distinct female characters, such as Lin daiyu, Qingwen, Xue Baochai ,whom are called “Jinling twelve stocks”. Meanwhile, the author of Pride and Prejudice , Jane Austen, wrote vividly from the view of the female character Elizabeth about the British town life and ways of the world human sentiment at the same period. These two works from different countries and societies both succeeded in shaping a lot of fine and typical female characters. Furthermore, they both reflected culture and society of that period by characterizing these different female characters.

　　　The first part of this thesis introduces the two authors and their literary achievements. The second part selects Lin Daiyu and Elizabeth as the main female characters to analyze. The third part compares the background, the personalities and the destinies of the two female characters to analyze the difference of the differences between Chinese culture and English culture.

摘要:《红楼梦》是一部具有高度思想性和高度艺术性的伟大作品，曹雪芹具有初步的民主主义思想。他对现实社会、宫廷、官场的黑暗，封建贵族阶级及其家族的腐朽，对封建的科举、婚姻、奴婢、等级制度和社会统治思想等都进行了深刻的批评。他着重刻画了林黛玉、晴雯、薛宝钗等一系列性格鲜明的女性角色，被称为“金陵十二钗”。而《傲慢与偏见》的作者奥斯汀则从伊丽莎白的视角生动反映了同一时期处于保守和闭塞状态下的英国乡镇生活和世态人情。这两部诞生于不同国度和社会的作品，成功塑造了许多细腻典型的女性角色，从这些不同性格的女性角色身上一定程度上反映了当时的社会和文化。

　　　本论文的第一部分分别介绍两位作者以及他们的作品。第二部分分别选取了林黛玉和伊丽莎白两位主要女性角色进行剖析。第三部分则对这两个角色的背景，性格和不同命运进行对比和分析，并且结合社会时代背景探究中英文化差异。
