Abstract: In the modern society, the cultivation of intercultural communicative competence is of extreme importance. It is not only the requirement of New English Curriculum Standards for middle school but also the necessary element in training the qualified personnel. However, traditional English teaching pays too much attention to the language knowledge; vocabulary and grammar are taken as the dominant factors, while cultural knowledge is normally ignored. After a brief introduction to culture and cultural education, this paper analyzes the necessity of cultural education and explores several methods of teaching western culture in middle school English class.

摘要：培养跨文化交际能力在现代社会非常重要，这既是中学英语新课程标准的要求，也是人才培养的要素。然而，传统的英语教学太过关注语言知识；词汇，语法因素占统治地位，而文化因素却往往被忽视。本论文拟简要介绍文化与文化教育，分析在中学英语教学中进行文化教学的必要性，并着重介绍、探讨几种有效传递文化信息的教学方法。
