Abstract:Cooperative Principle has not been well studied in domestic academic world, especially the application of Cooperative Principle in films. As an art of conversation and performance, film has inseparable relation with people’s real life. So it is a good material for us to study Cooperative Principle. This thesis is going to analysis dialogue between the hero and heroine in film Titanic from the perspective of Cooperative Principle to know the application of Cooperative Principle in film. According to this paper, the application of Cooperative Principle has a great effect to imply the role design including the status, the characteristics and the education of characters. It can also suggest the change of the relationships between characters, advancing the story. Therefore, Cooperative Principle has much significance to the communication in real life. People can reach their communication purpose by following Cooperative Principle or intentionally violating Cooperative Principle.
