Abstract

Nowadays, with the development of the times, the way of cultural exchange between China and other counties is becoming more and more diversified. Film and television drama has become an important means of communication and vehicle of human cultural exchange.    This thesis studies the subtitle translation of television works from the perspective of Skopostheorie. The feature of Skopostheorie is that the translation content does not necessarily correspond to the original translation but choose some different methods or strategies to achieve the purpose of translation.

Subtitle translation is also restrained by the space and time in which such activities take place. As a result, the translators can only intend to choose the most appropriate translation strategy to achieve the ideal results. This paper takes This Is Us as the subject of study, analyzes the subtitle translation from the perspective of Skopostheorie and in line with the three principles of Skopostheorie, analyzes how the translator utilizes different translation strategies to satisfy the expectations of the audience.
