Abstract

As an important literary genre, drama has a precious tradition that is for the benefit of the state and the people. Translating drama can effectively spread Chinese culture. Drama translation is not only a simple conversion of two languages, but also a creation of the stage effect. Lao She’s Teahouse is a distinguished book with a high literary and cultural value. Upon the theory of translator’s subjectivity, this thesis chooses two English versions by Huo Hua and Ying Ruocheng as the research targets to examine the profound change generated by translator’s subjectivity, and briefly explore the factors that contribute to the differences of translation characteristics and strategies. Moreover, it can also provide one more angle for researchers to study drama translation.
