Abstract: Gone with the Wind, a great masterpiece written by Margaret Mitchell, has attracted the world-wild attention and many foreign versions have come out ever since its first publication in 1936. In order to make a detailed pragmatic analysis of its translation process, this study adopts Adaptation Theory as its theoretical framework to explore its explanatory power over novel translation from four aspects including its context, structural objects, dynamic adaptation and salience. The paper aims to not only provide a comprehensive perspective for people to have a better understanding of translation process, but also demonstrates that it is feasible to apply Adaptation Theory as a new perspective to literature appreciation theoretically and practically, so as to help people have a clear direction towards the further literary translation.

Key words: Gone with the Wind; translation process; Adaptation Theory
