ABSTRACT

The movie The Shawshank Redemption is adapted from American famous writer Stephen King's novel The Shawshank Redemption. It reveals the human nature in the form of an extremely cool manner. At the same time, it provokes people to rethink the western rationalism culture with a positive attitude. 

The paper aims at the analysis of liberal pursuit of the hero in the movie The Shawshank Redemption. Combined with the plots of the film, it explores how many efforts that Andy did for his fellows and himself.

This paper consists three chapters. Chapter one gives a brief introduction to the contents of the film while Chapter two analyzes the previous studies on this movie from Chinese and foreign researchers or scholars. In the third Chapter, it illuminates how the movie embodies the redemption of the hero and his inmates from four things.

The spirit of pursuing personal freedom of the hero benefits people greatly. They can get the empathy in the hero of the movie. Sequentially, they will burn the spark of life and light one candle in their lives!
