Abstract

The reform and open policy has brought unprecedented opportunities to our country. As a typical political text, the government work report covers the current situation of China's social, economic and cultural development and the future development plan. The political target texts have been paid higher attention by the other countries, and the skopos theory as a translation theory can provide helpful guidance for the translation of political essay.

This paper focuses on the translation of the words with Chinese characteristics in GWR 2016 from the skopos perspective. Starting out with studies of the features of the words with Chinese characteristics, the study intends to research from the following three strategies: free translation, literal translation, and the literal translation with annotation, on how Chinese characteristic words in political texts are converted, used, and integrated into English, so that the English readers can better understand the original meaning and the communication purpose is achieved.
