Abstract：Harry Potter Series of Novels first came out in 1997. "Children are not the only ones reading these magical fairy-tales—adults pore over them unabashedly and may even, perhaps, discuss the adventures of Harry, Ron, and Hermione at the proverbial water cooler"(Kelly 2009: 1). The novels had been translated into more than 70 kinds of language and are still on the top of the book sales. How does it become so successful? Many studies have been carried out in search of the reasons behind the success of the series. 

　　　In this study, through reading and comparing lots of data, the Gothic element in Harry Potter Series of Novels is analyzed. On the basis of the former studies in Harry Potter Series, this thesis mainly aims at the research of Gothic technique in the plot, environment construction, and characters, writing techniques and themes of Harry Potter Series of Novels, so as to appreciate the manipulation of Gothic element in Harry Potter Series of Novels.

摘要：1997年，《哈利·波特》系列小说问世。“不仅是孩子们对这些魔幻故事着迷，连成人们也爱不释手地阅读，更有甚者，可能在办公室的茶水间讨论哈利、罗恩和赫敏的历险记”（(Kelly 2009: 1）。小说有70多种语言译本，至今经久不衰，仍高居图书销售榜首。为何《哈利·波特》能如此风靡全球呢？许多学者都对此系列的成功之因进行了研究。

　　　本选题通过阅读和对比大量的资料，对《哈利·波特》系列小说中哥特式元素的运用进行分析研究。在学习前学者在哥特式领域中对哈的研究所得中，本选题从哥特元素在《哈利·波特》系列小说中的情节，环境建筑，人物塑造，写作技巧与主题的运用中出发，与传统哥特式手法运用的对比中，研究《哈利·波特》系列小说对哥特元素继承和发展。
