Abstract:With the accelerative process of globalization, there are more and more cross-cultural communications around the world. Therefore, appellations, an important part of language which is the common tool used in cross-cultural communication, can not be ignored.

　　　In daily communication, appellation appears frequently. Before starting a conversation, the speaker can not avoid using appellation to draw the listener’s attention. As its status in daily life, appellation is not only the identity of a person but also a sign of culture.

　　　Different cultures have their own different addressing systems. The Chinese and English appellations are quite different. Due to continual communications between these two kinds of cultures, understanding each other’s usage of appellations becomes significant.

　　　This thesis is to make a comparative study between Chinese and English appellations in cross-cultural communication. It can help the people who are under these two cultures know each other and have more smooth exchanges between them. In addition, some common problems, which happen between these people in using appellations, are to be dealt with. The author believes that with the clear illustrations, cross-cultural communication will be easier.

摘要:随着全球化进程的发展，世界范围内的跨文化交际越来越频繁。称谓语作为语言的一部分，在跨文化交际中更是不能被忽视。

　　　在日常的交流中，称谓语的出现频率很高。通常，无法避免的说话者要使用称谓语来吸引听者的注意。由于它举足轻重的地位，现已成为文化的一种象征。

　　　不同的文化有着不同的称谓体系。中英称谓语就存在着很大的差异。由于两种文化之间持续不断的交流，清楚了解对方称谓语的使用变得相当重要。

　　　在这篇论文中，笔者将对比研究中英称谓语的差异，这样能帮助人们更好的理解这两种文化，并且使交流更顺畅。另外，两种文化交流时产生的一些问题也会被讨论。笔者相信清楚的解释一定能让跨文化交际变得更容易。
