In Pride and Prejudice, Austen expresses her different marriage views. This novel reflects the country society life in nineteen century. There are five marriages in this novel. From this novel we can know the women were in low social status and the marriage’s importance for the women. Women could not have equal status. Marriage was the only way to change present state at that time. Women’s marriage was influenced by the social status and property. This thesis analyses the marriages of Elizabeth and Lucas. The two marriages are under the two different views of marriage.

Elizabeth is a woman who believes true love. She thinks that marriage should base on love. So she refuses Collins and Darcy’s proposal. She can not accept the marriage without love. In this novel, Elizabeth and Darcy’s marriage is based on love; their marriage is an ideal marriage. Darcy has high social status and property. At first, Darcy looks down upon Elizabeth’s family. He finds that he falls in love with Elizabeth but his love is proud. Darcy changes his idea about classes after Elizabeth refuses his proposal. He learns to judge people from their character. At last, he wins Elizabeth’ love and married her.
