ABSTRACT:Lin Yutang, famous writer and translator, is one of the earliest Chinese who translate the Chinese classical poetry to English. His translation works as well as his profound aesthetic theories have made great influence both at home and abroad. From the perspective of aesthetics, this thesis carries out a study on Lin Yutang’s translation, taking his English translation of “Yangzhou Shouma” for example; meanwhile, based on the theory of Translation Aesthetics, along with the characteristics of the poems, the study explores Lin Yutang’s translation theory and style. According to the analysis from the perspectives of the aesthetic object and aesthetic subject, it can be concluded that the principles of “faithfulness, smoothness and beautifulness” Lin Yutang stands by, and “beautifulness” is the most significant and substantial part in his translation theory.  What is more, the thoughts of expressing the meaning accurately and vividly is what we can perceive from the appreciation of Lin Yutang’s translation works. As far as his translation style is concerned, conciseness, faithfulness, succinctness and vividness are what Lin tries to achieve.

摘要:林语堂是中国著名作家、翻译家，最早把中国的古典诗词翻译成英文的中国作家之一。他的翻译作品以及其深厚的美学理论，在国内外影响深远。本文从美学角度探讨林语堂的翻译，以翻译美学理论作为支撑并结合诗词的相关特点，以《扬州瘦马》这部作品为例，重点剖析林语堂的翻译美学思想及其翻译风格。从审美客体和审美主体的角度对其翻译作品的分析，我们可以得出林语堂的翻译思想主要是“忠实，通顺和美”，其中，“美”的原则是其翻译思想最为重要和本质的部分。同时，达意和传神的思想在林语堂翻译作品的鉴赏中可见一斑，是其翻译思想的精髓。他的翻译风格简而言之就是：忠实，简练和生动传神。
