Abstract: The Bridges of Madison County, written by a famous and popular American writer, has been a topic of hot debates since its publication. Many critics focus on the heroine of the novel, Francesca. On the one hand, some of them praise her for her passion, thoughtfulness and responsibilities. On the other hand, others criticize her extra-marital behavior. By using the Freud’s psychoanalysis theory, this thesis aims to analyze the reason of Francesca’s behaviour.

摘要：美国著名作家罗伯特詹姆斯沃勒的代表作《廊桥遗梦》自发表以来，一直是人们议论的话题。该小说的女主人公弗朗西斯卡更是人们争论的焦点。一方面她被称赞热情洋溢，善解人意，更是肩负有责任感。另一方面，也有评论指责她的婚外恋行为。本文通过弗洛伊德的心理学进而分析弗朗西斯卡行为的原因。
