Abstract:This thesis reviews the present situation of word translation and explores the culture and translation of Chinese word 方便, which has different paraphrases in different context. In the Modern Chinese Dictionary, the word has four paraphrases and more meanings in ancient Chinese prose. It not only has adjectives and nouns, but also has verb, especially in the Buddhist scriptures, and the utilization of 方便 is obviously. Meanwhile, the thesis makes a discussion on the translation of 方便 in literal translation, annotation and paraphrase.
