Abstract: This study aims to review the origin of American English and to introduce the formation and development of American English. By analyzing the current situation of American English and including the impact of American English in the world, the results puts forward several possible trends for the future development of American English. Furthermore, through the study of American English, it can help English learners to hold a more comprehensive understanding of English varieties and have more freedom to choose their favorite English varieties then the learners can choose English in a more flexible way. More importantly, by the spread of American English in our country, we can find a more proper way of English education in China. It can promote healthy development of language policy in China.
