Abstract: This paper studies translation of English film titles. When summarizing common strategies and methods for translation, the writer lists some examples for illustration.  After that, the writer introduces the theoretical support for this study, namely, skopos theory, talking about its application in translation. Based on the theoretical guidance in her study, she goes on to consider the criteria for assessing translation quality, and holds the opinion that faithfulness plays a positive role in looking at merits and demerits of translation of English film titles. However, in this study, the writer defines her creative faithfulness and compares it with the traditional faithfulness. She also endeavors to provide her tentative translations for certain English film titles with reference to the skopos theory and consideration of creative faithfulness as well.
