Abstract:Gone with the Wind written by Margaret Mitchell is one of the most famous novels in American literature. This romantic love story runs parallel with the descriptions of the realistic American civil war. The author has not only revealed the complicated and touching love of entanglement between Scarlet and the hero, but also presented a historical panorama of the crisscross and soul-stirring Civil War and postwar reconstruction. Besides the careful arrangement of the plot, the characterizations are one of the strongest aspects of her writing.

　　　Through analyzing the two female characters--Scarlet and Melanie, this essay gives some suggestions to modern women about how to get success both in career and family. As for success in career, women can learn from Scarlet about her main strength: the ability of Confidence, independence, brave and perseverant. As for success in family life, women can learn the flash points of Melanie’s characteristics: trust, respect and love.

摘要:《飘》是美国文学史上最为人熟知的小说之一。小说将浪漫的爱情故事与现实中美国南北战争的描写贯穿在一起，既写出了女主人公斯嘉丽与男主人公之间的爱情纠葛，又展现出一幅幅惊心动魄的南北战争和战后重建的历史画卷。它的成功不仅在于作者对小说情节的精心安排,在她的书中,人物的性格描写是她最出色的一个部分。

　　　本文通过对小说中的两位女性斯嘉丽和梅拉妮的性格进行分析，为现代女性如何在事业，家庭方面取得成功提出了建议：在事业方面学习斯嘉丽的优点：自信，勇敢；在家庭生活方面学习梅拉妮性格上的闪光点：对人的信任、尊重他人以及充满爱心。本论文通过挖掘两人身上拥有的各具特色的闪光点，希望能对21世纪的新女性有所启示。
